Fear the Lord

So... In my quiet time tonight, the Lord just keeps hitting me in the face with stuff.... Just wanted to share this.

"I write to you, dear children,
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, dear children,
because you have known the Father.
I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one."
1 John 2:12-14

I love this. "I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father." Because of our relationship with Christ, we have overcome. We talk about how Satan has a stronghold in our lives and this that and the other thing. But am I wrong in thinking that, according to this passage, that's NOT it?! I'm reading "The Barbarian Way", and Erwin Ralph McManus talks about living a faith that is raw and untamed. But he also points out that living the Christian life doesn't always mean peaches and roses. He says though, that we have nothing to fear but God. And the rest of our fears are taken care of in our one "Fear" of the Lord. (And by "fear" he means reverence). It's cool.
